Zelma Constable, a 96-year-old resident of Princeton, passed away on Friday, Feb. 1, 2002 at Bristol Manor in Princeton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton. Rev. Ronald Helton will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, northwest of Princeton.

Open visitation is in progress at the funeral home.

Mrs. Constable was born in the Pleasant Ridge community in Mercer County on Jan. 7, 1906, the daughter of James and Sarah Dykes Hickman. She was married to William E. Constable on Dec. 12, 1927. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1997. She was a lifelong resident of Mercer County, having lived all of her life on their farm until moving to Bristol Manor in 1995.

Mrs. Constable was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She loved playing the piano and spent her spare time playing for enjoyment. In her younger years, she played for church services on a regular basis. She also played for other churches on special occasions, country schools for programs, played on the radio and gave piano lessons. She played for church services at Bristol Manor until the last two months of her life.

Mrs. Constable is survived by one daughter, Lois Beavers of Princeton; one grandson, Mark Sparks of Kansas City; and three granddaughters, Candice, Courtney and Chelsie Sparks of Claycomo.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Constable was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jesse Holmes and infant sister, Agnes Hickman; two brothers, Carlos and Hortie Hickman; and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Sparks.
