The Grundy R-5 Board of Education hired two persons and discussed a variety of subjects during a meeting Monday night at the school in Galt.
Superintendent Bob Bach said the board hired Trey Cavanah of Marceline to fill the physical education position at the school. Cavanah will begin his duties in December after he completes his student teaching.
Also hired by the board was Terry Rains of Spickard as a part-time custodian.
The board approved the bus routes for the 1999-2000 school year and discussed results of the MAP test given to students last spring. Bach said testing was done in four areas – math, science, communication arts and social studies, which was done on a voluntary basis. He said that results were mixed, much like results of other schools throughout the state.
The faculty reviewed a list of priorities developed following a tour of district facilities. Bach said the board will develop a project list for future work.
Bach reported on a meeting he and board member Kim Oaks attended in September. The meeting, held at Brookfield, featured Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Director Dr. Bob Bartman, who discussed education issues in the state.
Bach also reported on a labor and wage workshop he attended and updated board members on educational cooperatives in which the school is involved. The 1999-2000 calendar was reviewed and Bach announced that classes would be dismissed early Friday for a teacher workshop and that there would be no school on Monday. Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled from 1 to 7 p.m. on Monday.
Dr. John Holcomb of Trenton, representing the Missouri School Boards Association, presented the board with a plaque recognizing the board’s membership in MSBA.
The next meeting of the R-5 Board of Education is scheduled for Nov. 15.
