The reigning Miss Missouri, Patryce King, will be featured in the 1999 Missouri Day Festival Parade, which will kickoff activities on Saturday morning.
Miss King will be among the first entries in the parade, which starts at 8:30 a.m. Her appearance was arranged by this year’s parade grand marshal, Steve Maxey, who also serves as the booking agent for Miss Missouri. Miss King, who was the 1998 Miss Trenton, was scheduled to be in the area Saturday for an appearance in Marceline during the afternoon and added Trenton to her schedule when the opportunity presented itself. She recently returned from participating in the Miss America Pageant and has several appearances planned before her reign as Miss Missouri ends next June.
Entries for this year’s parade are being accepted until 5 p.m., today at the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce office. Entries made after today will be placed at the back of the parade and will not be judged. Plaques are to be given in 13 categories. The parade will be broadcast on Tele-News 11 (cable channel 11), beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The Trenton Rotary Club is sponsoring this year’s parade, which will follow a route from Crowder Road, down Main Street to Ninth and continue down Ninth Street to Kerfoot, finishing at Eastside Park. Bands participating in the band festival will exit the parade at Normal Street in order to get to their competition areas on time.
Bands scheduled to march in the parade include Trenton High School, Tri-County of Jamesport, Grundy R-5 at Galt, North Mercer, Osborn, Keytesville, Green City, Southwest Livingston County of Ludlow, Carrollton, Concordia, Salisbury, Lafayette County at Higginsville, Macon, Odessa, Savannah, Harrisonville and Blue Springs.
A total of 26 bands are scheduled to participate in the band festival, which will be held at Trenton High School (drumline, twirling and auxiliary) and C.F. Russell Stadium (field competition).
The parade and band competition are among several activities planned during the Missouri Day Festival, which kicks off Thursday night with a soup supper served by the Trenton Area Business and Professional Women. The supper will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church.
Opening ceremonies will be at 7 p.m., also at the church, with Dr. John Holcomb as the master of ceremonies. Winners of the children’s costume and yard decorating contests will be announced along with the naming of the new Little Mister and Miss Trenton.
A farmer’s market will be held Friday in the fairgrounds area, beginning at 8 a.m. Vendors and flea market participants will begin setting up at 10 a.m. and the Grundy County Museum will be open to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. Entries for the quilt show will be accepted in the Trenton High School commons area from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The Trenton Masonic Lodge will sponsor a breakfast at the Masonic Hall from 5:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday. Concessions, vendors, the flea market and farmer’s market will open at 8 a.m., with entries for the scarecrow contest at Eastside Shopping Center being taken at 8:30 a.m.
The craft village opens in the Rock Barn and Pavilion areas at 9 a.m. as does the Grundy County Museum. The Green Hills MOPS chapter will offer a “Mother’s Comfort Zone” in the Rock Barn fine arts building, beginning at 9 a.m.
The Carroll County Players will present six performances of “Frank & Jesse James” at Johnson Field, beginning at 11 a.m. and running on the hour through 4 p.m. Children’s game are scheduled at 11:30 a.m. at Griffin Field. Children ages 13-and-under can take part in the games, whichinclude shoe kicking, gunny sack races, bubble gum blowing and wheelbarrel races. Prizes will be awarded for each game.
There will be several musical performances throughout the afternoon in the Rock Barn Courtyard area and Bob Teegarden will have his balloon animals. The quilt show opens at 2 p.m. at the high school and runs until 6 p.m. There is a $1 admission charge for the show.
The concessions, vendors, flea market and farmer’s market opens at 8 a.m. on Sunday, with the craft village scheduled to open at 10 a.m. Registration for the Trenton Kiwanis Car Show begins at 9 a.m. until noon, with the show from noon to 3 p.m. in the public parking area across from the Grundy County Museum.
The quilt show opens at 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and the Mother’s Comfort Zone opens at noon.
Registration for the baby show is from noon to 1 p.m. in the high school, with the show set to start at 1 p.m. The talent show, sponsored by KTTN, will begin at 2 p.m.
There will be a $1 admission into the high school on Sunday, which covers admission to all three activities – the quilt show, baby show and talent show.
There will be entertainment throughout the afternoon in the courtyard of the Rock Barn, concluding with a performance at 3 p.m. by the Three Keys.
