The weight limit on the Charley Dye Bridge will be lowered following a report to the Grundy County Commission during its regular meeting held Tuesday.

According to Grundy County Clerk L.D. Gibson, a report from Ken Foster and Kirk Stegman of the Missouri Department of Transportation has indicated there are structural problems with the bridge, including the west end supports, which are not secured very well. Gibson said engineers from Shafer, Kline and Warren will look at the bridge through the Bridge Engineer Assistance Program and make recommendations. For now, the weight limit on the bridge will be reduced from 10 tons to five tons, which Commissioner Bud Cox, who also supervises the Crabtree-Harmon Bus Company in Trenton, said will result in a bus route being changed. Foster and Stegman also recommended that frequent inspections of the bridge are made until repairs are completed and suggested that traffic on the bridge may be halted completely during flooding.
