The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education approved its levy for the 1999-2000 school year and accepted a resignation of a board member during a meeting on Monday night.

Superintendent Dr. Lynn Kowolski said the levy was set at $4.63 on the $100 assessed valuation, which is five cents higher than last year. The new levy is expected to generate $213,412 in local revenue.

The board accepted the resignation of Fred Simpson as a member of the board, effective immediately. Dr. Kowolski said that applications are being accepted from interested patrons to fill the term until next April’s school election. Persons interested in the position are asked to submit a letter to the board of education, stating why they want to serve on the board and their qualifications. Letters will be accepted in the school office until 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13.

Dr. Kowolski said the board will review the applications at a meeting that night, with a new board member to be appointed at a later meeting. To replace Simpson as secretary of the board, Cherie Allen was elected to the position.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 13.
