Rachel E. Long, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at the Morningside Center in Chillicothe at the age of 86. She was a former resident of 302 John F. Kennedy Avenue, Chillicothe.

Rachel E. Long, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at the Morningside Center in Chillicothe at the age of 86. She was a former resident of 302 John F. Kennedy Avenue, Chillicothe.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Burial will be in the Shelburn Cemetery at Chillicothe.

Mrs. Long, the daughter of Rufus and Mytilida Brittian Harr, was born on Aug. 18, 1913 in Kingsport, Tn. She was married to Rev. Vernon Sampson (Sam) Long on Oct. 4, 1930 in Grundy County. He died on June 28, 1988.

Mrs. Long was a cook for Sperry’s Nursing Home, and was the co-manager and cook for the Grand Oaks Assembly, near Chillicothe. She had made her home with her son and daughter-in-law in Chillicothe for the past 11 years.

Mrs. Long was a member of the Community Baptist Church of Utica.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Nolan and Wanda Long of Chillicothe; five grandchildren, Lori Murry of Parkville, Clayton Long of Chillicothe, Debbie Engwall of Peoria, Az., Cindy Stevens of Phoenix, Az., and Glen Long Jr., of Clay City, In.; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Long was preceded in death by one son, Glen Delbert Long; a sister, Mary Helmandollar; a half-brother, Glenn Harr; and a half-sister, Mina Hurt.
