Mrs. Marjorie Velma Crigler, 88, died Aug. 23, 1999 at the Princeton Care Center in Princeton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, at the Mercer Christian Church. Rev. Dave Robertson and Rev. Robert Markum will officiate. Burial will be in the Early Cemetery at Mercer.

Open visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Home in Princeton. A family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Mrs. Crigler was born on Feb. 11, 1911 in Mercer, the daughter of Isom “Iva” and Delsie (Cox) Holmes. She was married to Joseph Jackson Crigler on March 12, 1931. He died on Oct. 7, 1976.

Mrs. Crigler attended school in Mercer and graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Centerville, Ia. She worked as a registered nurse at the Axtell Community Hospital in Princeton and later at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.

Mrs. Crigler lived most of her life in Mercer except for six years when she and her husband lived in Trenton. She was a member of the Mercer Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary of Mercer.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean Gray, and husband, Sanford, of Mercer, and Joanna Mayo of Independence; a son-in-law, Jackie Fagan of Cameron; eight grandchildren, Paula and Marjorie Fagan, Ivy Ormsby, Jean Ann Hirsh, Lucinda Clark, Linda Jo Rockhold, George Gray, and Shawn Collobert; 12 great-grandchildren, Tisha, Robert, Sarah, Stevie, Jacklyn, Joey, Pennie, M’Lyn, Chris, Courtney, Katelyn and Samantha; and two great-great-grandsons, Mason and Dawson.

Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Crigler was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Fagan; one son-in-law, Marvin Mayo; and two brothers, John and Paul Holmes.
