Mrs. Carolyn Dean, 61, died at 2:35 a.m. today, July 26, 1999, at her home at 571 NW Quarry Street in Edinburg after an extended illness. She was a retired registered nurse and was the former coordinator of the LPN program at North Central Missouri College in Trenton.

Mrs. Carolyn Dean, 61, died at 2:35 a.m. today, July 26, 1999, at her home at 571 NW Quarry Street in Edinburg after an extended illness. She was a retired registered nurse and was the former coordinator of the LPN program at North Central Missouri College in Trenton.
The body was cremated.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, at the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton. Brother Richard Key will officiate.
There is no visitation scheduled.
Mrs. Dean was born on Dec. 7, 1937 in Grundy County, the daughter of Paul and Edith Silvers Whitfield. She was raised in the Trenton area and graduated from Trenton High School in 1955. She was married to Max Dean on Nov. 27, 1959 in Trenton.
Mrs. Dean also graduated from nursing school in St. Joseph in 1959, and worked as a nurse at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton until 1966. She and her husband then bought the Whitfield Nursing Home in Trenton, which they operated for a number of years.
Mrs. Dean received a BS in nursing from Central Methodist College at Fayette, and taught EMT and paramedic training at Trenton Junior College. She was again employed at Wright Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse before becoming the coordinator of the LPN program at NCMC, a post she held for 15 years before she retired in 1994 due to ill health.
Mrs. Dean was a member of the First Baptist Church of Trenton; the Missouri League of Nursing; the Girl Scouts of America; the Vocation Teachers Association; Phi Beta Kappa; and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Max of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Dorsey and Brenda Dean of Laredo; two daughters, Kelly, now Mrs. John Myers of Edinburg, and Jenny Dean of Tindall; four sisters, Dorothy Whitfield of Lee’s Summit, Edith Long of Kansas City, Betty Berry of Sunrise Beach, and Margaret Humphreys of Tuscumbia; and four grandchildren, Chelsey, Zach, Justin, and Bethany.
Mrs. Dean was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Paul and Joe Whitfield.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Missouri League of Nurses. These may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home, 813 Custer, Trenton, Mo. 64683.
