The Laredo R-7 School Board accepted the resignation of a teacher and amended a contract for teaching duties during a meeting on Friday night.

Principal Gary Henry said music teacher and middle school math instructor Vanessa Cox has resigned to take a position in another school district. Carol Wilford, who is a part-time aide at the school and is certified to teach vocal music, will assume the vocal and instrumental music duties in addition to serving as a part-time aide. Henry said he will be advertising for a teacher to fill the math position as well as serve as a language arts instructor.

The board approved changing the contract for the part-time art teacher’s position to a full-time post so that a third school can be added to a teaching cooperative. Laredo and Chula already share the services of Debbie Gray and, under the new contract, she will also teach art in the Pleasant View R-6 School District.

Bids were accepted for diesel and propane fuel, with MFA Oil of Trenton being the low bidder. The board agreed to have repairs done to guttering in the hallway of the school.

Henry was instructed to begin work on the student handbook for the 1999-2000 school year, with the board to take action at the August meeting. A review of investments was also done by the board.

An executive session for personnel was held, however, no action was taken.

The next meeting of the R-7 board will be on Aug. 9. The meeting will be preceded by a public hearing on the proposed school tax levy.
