Edward L. Burton, 85, of Cherokee Village, Ar., died Friday, July 16, 1999 at the Eaglecrest Nursing and Rehab Center in Ash Flat, Ar.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Laredo, under the direction of Tri-County’s Cherokee Chapel of Highland, Ar.

Mr. Burton was born in Wyatt on Sept. 26, 1913, the son of Harry and Mary (Hightower) Burton. He was married to Evelyn F. Tracy on April 5, 1958 in Carbondale, Il.

Mr. Burton, who was a farmer, was a member of the Diehlstadt Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of the home; two daughters, Charlotte Starr of Granite City, Il., and Corinne O’Brien of O’Fallon, Il.; one brother, R.A. Burton of Brighton, Il.; one sister, Caroline Ray of Mountain Grove; one stepson, George W. Hale Jr. of Liberty; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Burton was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence and Ralph Burton; and one sister, Bessie Witt.

Contributions have been suggested to the American Heart Fund in memory of Mr. Burton.
