John Richard “Dick” Brummitt, 44, of Brookfield, died Friday morning, July 16, 1999, at the Regional Care Center in Columbia. He was a former resident of Trenton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, at the Park Baptist Church in Brookfield. Rev. Martin Barker, Rev. Kenneth Kelley, Rev. John Clapp, and Rev. Mark Conyers will officiate. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Brookfield.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 o’clock tonight, July 19, at the Rhodes Funeral Home in Brookfield.
Mr. Brummitt was born in Unionville on Sept. 14, 1954, the son of John Wesley and Barbara C. (Whitaker) Brummitt. He was married to Dava Lou Groves of Trenton in January 1984.
Mr. Brummitt grew up in the Pollock area, graduated from Milan High School, and attended vocational technical school in Kirksville. In the past, he lived in Trenton, where he was a policeman for five years. Most recently, he was on the Brookfield police force for five years. Mr. Brummitt was critically injured in a car crash while on duty on April 14, 1998. He spent the last months of his life in a skilled nursing facility in Columbia.
Mr. Brummitt was a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include his wife, Dava of the home; five sons, Jason Craig Brummitt of Milan, Wesley Joe Brummitt, and wife, Becky, of Brookfield, and Bradley Steven and Ryan Scott Groves, and Nathan Brummitt, all of the home; one grandson, Austin Cole Brummitt; his parents, John and Barbara Brummitt of Unionville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Vickie and Don Tolen of Jamesport, and Penny and Joe Waggoner of Maryville; one niece; three nephews; two great-nieces; and two great-nephews.
Mr. Brummitt was preceded in death by his grandparents.
