The Grundy County Commis-sion received an estimate of the cost to construct an addition to the City Public Safety Complex during a meeting held Tuesday.

According to County Clerk L.D. Gibson, the estimate, given by Trickel Construction, was for a total cost of $65,158. The addition would include a 30-foot by 60-foot structure connected to the existing complex, with the roof and wall panels to match the existing building as much as possible. The estimate includes the cost of materials, labor, equipment and insurance to construct the building, which would allow room to continue housing the county ambulance service at the facility. An alternate estimate for installation of new restrooms in the existing building was listed at $29,515.

Gibson said it is possible the city will actually pay for the addition, with the county’s monthly rent to increase from $400 to a higher amount, with $1,000 discussed in recent meetings. Gibson said the commission will discuss the estimate with ambulance service employees and the ambulance advisory board. No floor plan has been established yet.

Commissioners met with Harold Walker to discuss a road in Jackson Township that is west of the Thompson River and needs to have work. The county will be talking with landowners in the area about gaining the right-of-way necessary to work on the road.

The commission agreed to increase the amount designated for courthouse renovation from $25,000 to $40,000.

In other business, the Board of Equalization met with four persons during the day, including representatives of Princeton Manor, which was granted a tax-exempt status based on its affiliation with the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. The board is still available to meet with those who wish to appeal their 1999 assessments and persons wishing to make an appointment may contact Gibson at 359-6305.

The commission will be meeting with township officials at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at the Green Hills Community Action Agency to discuss the possibility of going county-wide.
