Garage Destroyed, Truck Damaged In Fire

Apr 10, 2014 | Fire Department

A garage was destroyed and a truck damaged in a fire Wednesday afternoon.
According to Trenton Fire Department Lt. Mike Moore, the garage was located at 401 E. Seventh St., and owned by Martin Little. When firefighters arrived, the detached garage was fully involved and a 1969 Ford F-110 pickup parked next to it was catching fire. Strong winds had caused the fire to spread rapidly and the garage was a total loss, with moderate heat damage to the truck.
The cause of the fire was attributed to embers being blown from a small pile of yard waste that was being burned in a fire pit earlier in the morning by a neighbor, Amy Cool. The embers got into a pile of raw lumber stacked nearby and owned by Mrs. Cool and then spread to the west wall of the garage, which was used for storage. No injuries were reported in the fire.
The Trenton Fire Department was assisted by members of the Grundy County Rural Fire Protection District and the Trenton Police Department.
