Wrestlers 2-1 At Lathrop Quad

Dec 18, 2019 | Sports & Recreation, Wrestling

The Trenton High School wrestling team was in Lathrop on Tuesday, where the Bulldogs fell 48-28 to the Mules before topping Plattsburg, 42-39, and Marceline, 42-27.
“We were down with some injuries in a few weights, but honestly the other teams were too,” Trenton coach Charlie Bacon said. “I thought we had a slow start against Lathrop and slowly improved throughout the night.”
Lathrop was open at four of the first five weights, but Lathrop took six of the eight matches decided on the mat. Mark Trump (182) won by fall and Kaden Owen (152) won by a 12-1 major decision, but Caylub Tyler (120), Coleman Griffin (138), Timothy Kempton (160), Gabe Gamble (195), Caleb Johnson (220) and Kael Brock (285) were all pinned.
Trenton won five matches by forfeit against Plattsburg and gave up three open weights. Pins from Griffin (132) and Johnson (220) were enough to push Trenton ahead, however, despite Owen (152), Kempton (160) and Gamble (195) being pinned and Brock (285) losing by a 7-0 decision.
Four wins by forfeit combined with pins from Griffin (138), Johnson (220) and Hunter McAtee (106) lifted Trenton past Marceline in the finale. Tyler (120), Brice Gibler (126) and Owen (152) were all pinned by Marceline foes while Gavin Chambers lost by an 8-6 decision at 113.
TRENTON GIRLS
Trenton had seven girls matches contested on the mat. Kaitlee Lovell pinned a Plattsburg opponent and lost by fall against Marceline. Libby Fewins pinned her opponent from Marceline, but lost by fall against Plattsburg. Ally Yoder was pinned by a Plattsburg opponent and Faith Baker was pinned by opponents from Lathrop and Marceline.
Trenton is at the Battle at the Katy Trail Tournament in Sedalia today (Friday) and Saturday.
