For the Trenton girls, nothing was missing as the Bulldogs pummeled their guests and rolled to a 45-13 victory, one that kept the home team undefeated on the season.
The Trenton boys put on a good showing as well, but ultimately fell to the visitors 34-29.
The Trenton girls wasted little time establishing their dominance in the contest, racing out to a 15-0 lead over Gallatin after the first quarter. Gallatin would manage just one basket in the second quarter and Trenton took a 29-2 lead into halftime. Trenton would outscore Gallatin 16-11 in the second half to win going away.
McKayla Blackburn led the way with 16 points and five steals and Maci Moore followed with 10 points and three assists. Saedee Jackson added eight points and three rebounds, Haley Kidd had five points, Lexi Whitaker had four points and five assists and Allena Allen had two points and five rebounds.
“We were a little rusty in some areas but overall this was a good game for us,” Trenton girls’ JV Coach John Cowling said. “I liked our defense in the first half. We did a great job making it hard for Gallatin to get good shots.”
The Trenton boys junior varsity team had its best showing of the year, according to Coach Kameron Cool, but still fell to Gallatin in a close game.
Trenton got down 5-0 early but would end the quarter on a 6-0 run to take the lead. The Bulldogs would again get down by as many as five, but made a run to take a 17-15 lead into the break.
The second half found Trenton struggling to score, as they managed just six points per quarter in the final half of the game. Gallatin would hit free throws down the stretch to secure their 34-29 victory.
“We have improved in so many ways since the last time we played,” Cool said. “This was a very positive step for our guys tonight, and I’m proud of how hard they competed.”
Dalton Burchett led the way with 12 points while also collecting eight rebounds. Matt Sibbit had seven points, and Preston Harris and Brycin Loyd each contributed three. Royce Jackson and Chase Otto rounded out the scoring for Trenton with two points each.
