Between 50 and 60 individuals attended a meeting of the Trenton R-9 Comprehensive School Improvement Program Committee on Wednesday night as members began work on the district’s five-year improvement plan.
Superintendent Dan Wiebers said those attending were divided into five groups, with each group addressing one of the five board of education goals that make up the CSIP plan. Those attending included faculty and staff, board members, students and members of the public.
Wiebers said each group discussed their goal and reviewed data received from a survey of parents, faculty, staff, students and members of the public conducted by the district. The data from the 640 responses received, along with input from committee members, will be used to help develop the final plan, including timelines for implementation of suggestions to meet the goals.
The district goals, as outlined in the current CSIP prgram, include develop and enhance quality programs to improve performance and enable students to meet their personal, academic and career goals; recruit, attract, develop and retain highly qualified staff; provide and maintain appropriate instructional resources, support services and functional and safe facilities; promote, facilitate and enhance parent, student and community involvement; and govern the local educational agency in an efficient and effective manner.
The committee is to meet again soon, with Wiebers hoping to have the plan available to the board of education for approval at a meeting this spring.
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requires that a district’s CSIP plan be updated every five years. The Trenton R-9 District last updated its plan in 2012.
