Aug 10, 2016 | Headline News

The Galt and Spickard city councils met this week, taking action on several items.
Galt
The Galt City Council approved an increase in electric rates during its meeting on Tuesday.
City Clerk Ashley Boren said the increase is the result of a rate hike by KCP&L to provide electric service to the city, however, it will only affect rates after 200kwh are used. The rates include $10 for the base of 20kwh, $.2004 for the next 30kwh used and $.1260 for the next 150kw, all of which are the same; and $.089 per kwh after 200, which is $.004 higher than the previous rate.
The council set the city tax levy at $1.00 per $100 assessed valuation, which is the same as last year. Approval was given to updating the city’s lead ban ordinance in accordance with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Also approved was an ordinance that allows council members to be elected at-large, beginning with the April 2017 city elections, and abolishing the election wardw.
Mrs. Boren reminded residents that the new city hall hours are Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. Persons can call city hall at 673-6514 with any questions or leave a message if no one is there.
The next council meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Spickard
The Spickard City Council took action on several items at its meeting on Monday.
According to information provided by City Clerk Mary Exley, the council approved the city tax levy, which was set at .9113 cents on the $100 assessed valuation. This is an increase over last year, when the rate was .9079 cents.
A bid for mowing land at the sewer plant for hay was approved, however, the successful bidder was not listed. The city will be trying to find the owner of equipment that has been left on city property and contact that individual to have it removed.
Members were reminded about a special meeting to be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17 concerning the city sewer project. The engineer from White Cloud Engineering, Brock Pfost, will be present to discuss the project.
Following an executive session, the board voted to pay monthly claims that were presented.
The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12 at city hall.
