A private graveside service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at South Evans Cemetery, northeast of Trenton, with Bryan Meeker officiating.
Mrs. Meeker was born on Sept. 18, 1937, in Jamesport, the youngest of three children and the daughter of the late Chancey Aleck and Etta Viola Brewer Pettengill.
She was married on Aug. 14, 1955 to Alvin D. Meeker for 25 years. They raised two children, Greg and Dana, in Kirksville and Blue Springs.
Mrs. Meeker graduated from Trenton High School in 1955. A homemaker and devoted mother, she later worked as a property manager and self-employed care giver for many years. She had resided in Jefferson City for the past 24 years.
Those who knew Carol found she was a woman of unwavering Christian faith. She served many roles in churches she attended including Sunday school teacher, youth leader, board member, and deaconess. Her passion in life was serving her Lord by sharing the good news of the Gospel through conversation and compassionate care of others. She last attended First Assembly of God in Jefferson City.
Survivors include her children, Greg (Becky) Meeker of Lohman and Dana (Jeff) Thornhill of St. Peters; five grandchildren, Kyle (Diana) Meeker of Lawrence, KS. Bryan Meeker of Memphis, TN, Scott (Kaylee) Thornhill of Chesterfield, Blake (Courtney) Thornhill of Fayetteville, AR and Chad Thornhill of St. Peters; a brother, Maurice (Pat) Pettengill of Milwaukee, WI; and a sister, Shirley DeVos of Moberly.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
