Robert Dale Stroup, 90, died on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016. He was the father of Stephanie Bengtson of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Trenton.
The body was cremated.
Mr. Stroup was born on Nov. 23, 1925 in Hastings, NE, the son of Dale D. and Lillian Brown Stroup. He was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Holdrege and later reconfirmed his faith at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Dannebrog, NE.
He graduated from Holdrege High School in 1944 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, being honorably discharged in 1945. He graduated Kearney State College in 1951 with a degree in education and spent many years as a teacher throughout Nebraska. He later served as postmaster in Dannebrog and St. Paul, beginning in 1960 and retiring in 1988.
He was married in Holdredge on Nov. 23, 1951 to Rogene Fastenau, who preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2014 in Trenton.
As well as enjoying his family, he enjoyed traveling and seeing the world. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in St. Paul, was a member of Tehama Temple (Shrine), in Hastings; past president of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Dannebrog; past first and second vice president of the NE Chapter of NAPUS; a member of the National Association of Postmasters; and a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
Mr. Stroup is survived by a son, Timothy Stroup and his wife, Shelly; a daughter, Stephanie Bengtson and her husband, Dave; grandchildren, Kristopher (Courtney) Stroup, Nathan (Kristen) Bengtson, Nicholas (Jenny) Stroup, Mandy (Ben) Williams and Dustin (Karla) Bengtson; great-grandchildren, Reid, Gavin, Emmy and Sadie Bengtson, Carter and Avery Bengtson, Harper and Parker Stroup and Delaney Stroup; a brother-in-law, Keith Fastenau and his wife, Charlotte; a sister-in-law, Loretta Kuck and her husband, Leroy; a sister-in-law, Jacque Stroup; and many nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother Sam; and a sister-in-law, Nita Fastenau Stroup.
