Delbert Ray Gentry, an 88-year-old resident of Trenton, died in his home on Monday, Oct. 5, 2015.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, 2015 at the First Christian Church in Trenton with Pastors Mike Moore and Doug Franklin officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Edinburg IOOF Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday at the church.
Mr. Gentry was born in Trenton on March 31, 1927, the son of Forrest B. and Mary Adams Gentry. He attended Edinburg and Trenton schools, graduating from THS in 1945.
Following graduation, he spent one year in the US Army and then returned to Grundy County where he worked at Standard Oil Delivery Services and Hy-Vee before retiring from Trenton Foods after 28 years as the purchasing agent in the parts department. Along with these jobs, he also farmed the land that has been in his family for over 100 years.
Mr. Gentry was active in First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where he was a member for 60-plus years. He was an avid and active member in many bodies of the Masons. He held many offices in the lodge, including Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of the state of Missouri.
He was married to Betty Crawford on Nov. 25, 1948.
Mr. Gentry loved the country, his farm, the Masonic Lodge, a good western book and sports on the television. He loved his family and has really enjoyed his great-grandkids. He touched many and was loved by them all.
Surviving him is his wife, Betty, of the home; two daughters, DeAnn Gentry of Columbia and Karen (Melvin) Saul of Trenton; one son, Tim of St. Joseph; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Brenda Allen; one sister, Donna Powell; and two infant brothers.
The family suggests memorials to the First Christian Church in Trenton. They may be left at or mailed to the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton, which is in charge of arrangements.
