The third annual “Sliced Bread Jam Bluegrass Festival” will be held Friday and Saturday June 19 and 20 at Litton Agri Campus on the north edge of Chillicothe.
The festival music features bluegrass bands from Missouri and Kansas and back this year is the Nashville band “The Boxcars,” winner of the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Instrumental Band of the Year for three straight years. The festival is presented by the Chillicothe Area Arts Council.
Friday night bands start at 6:30 with the Dough Boys, the hometown band performing, followed by the KBA Trebelmakers from Kansas. The Petersen Family Bluegrass Band plays at 8 o’clock.
Opening stage ceremonies begin at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday with the music starting at 12:30 p.m. Friday night bands will be joined Saturday by Rural Roots, the festival’s host band, and Lonesome Road from Republic. The Boxcars take the stage from 8:30 to 10 o’clock on Saturday night.
The Friday gate charge is $10 for adults, $5 for students and free for preschoolers. Saturday gate charges are $20 for adults, $7 for students and free for preschoolers. A two-day festival pass is $25 for adults, $10 for students and preschoolers will be admitted free. Those attending may bring their own lawn chair, but chairs may not be over 36 inches high.
A variety of food will also be available during the two-day event.
Camping is available on a first come-first served basis with some electric camp sites available and plenty of dry camping and tent camping available. Electric sites are $15 a day and dry sites are $10 a day. The event opens at 10 a.m. Friday, June 19, for those camping to begin arriving.
