The Spickard R-2 Board of Education set the filing dates for the board election and heard several reports during a meeting on Monday night at the school.
According to information provided by Superintendent Mike Garrett, the filing dates for persons interested in running for the board of education will be from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning on Dec. 17 and continuing until Jan. 21. Filing is done in the school office. The office will close at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20 and will be closed until 8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6.
The terms of Lindsay Glenn and Roger Bonnett expire as well as a position that is currently vacant. All terms are for three years.
Mrs. Glenn, who serves as the board president, spoke about the recent death of board member Bob Darby and the need for board members “to pull together and work as a single unit for the best of the students.” She said the board needed to work on eliminating “rumors and gossiping.”
There are now two vacancies on the board and members are seeking persons who would be interested in filling those positions .
Garrett updated the board on the district Focus Plan, reporting on the process of data collection on students and tracking progress. He also discussed his participation in the MoLEAD program.
Fire and weather procedures were reviewed by the superintendent as part of the safety report.
Attendance for the second quarter is at 96.7 percent and is at 97.4 percent overall. It was announced that the winter music concert would be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
The school calendar was discussed, with activities planned with the PTO for the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 26. Classes will be dismissed at 1 p.m. for the Thanksgiving break.
The PTO will hold crafts and activities for students during the morning of Dec. 19, with class parties in the afternoon. An all-school movie will be shown on Dec. 20, with Santa visiting in the afternoon. School will be dismissed at 1 p.m. on both days.
Teachers will be receiving a “spa afternoon” as their reward for results of the MAP testing last year. No date was announced.
Following an executive session for personnel and student matters, Amanda Scott was hired as the new district bookkeeper/secretary. She begins her duties on Monday, Dec. 2.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 16.
