Lady Bulldogs
The Trenton girls trailed 12-8 after a quarter of play and wouldn’t close the gap any the rest of the way. The Lady Cardinals tacked on five points to the lead in the second quarter, eight in the third and one in the fourth.
“It was a rough night for us,” Trenton JV girls’ Coach Brandon Boswell said. “Lawson has a lot of talent and we just couldn’t match-up.”
Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was Tosha Wilson, who scored 14 points. Ashley Allen and Megan Derry each scored three points and Bekah Wiggins and Mallory Hooyman each scored two points.
With the loss, the Trenton JV girls fell to 12-2 on the year.
Bulldogs
The Trenton JV boys found themselves trailing 10-5 after a quarter of play and 26-11 at halftime. Things didn’t get any better in the second half as Lawson continued to pull away, ultimately doubleing up the Bulldogs, 44-22.
“Lawson is a very sound program and we struggled all game long against their pressure defense,” Trenton JV boys’ Coach Adam Clark said. “Turnovers and quick shooting plagued us for most of the game. We were unable to consistently get the ball into the post.”
Leading the way for Trenton was Gannon Albrecht, who finished with six points and two assists. Isaiah Swann had four points and two assists and Charlie Hoffman added three points and two steals. Chris Kurtz, Cade Mullenix, Chanse Houghton and Bailey Owen all had two points each and Kurtz pulled down four rebounds.
With the loss, the Trenton JV boys fell to 9-6 on the season.
Both JV squads will wrap up their 2011-2012 campaigns on Monday as they travel to Bethany to face the South Harrison junior varsity. Action tips off at 6 p.m. with the girls game and the boys contest will follow.
