It was another game and another win for the Trenton Lady Bulldogs softball team on Thursday night as they hosted and defeated South Harrison 10-0, on Griffin Field.
Trenton Has No Trouble Going To 24-0
Trenton didn’t get the job done with just one big inning either, slowly building the lead from start to finish. Trenton’s offense continued to put up big numbers and hit well throughout the line-up. Scotlin Hurley was the latest to lead the offense in a line-up that seems to have a different star every game. Hurley was 4-for-4 at the plate with a triple and two RBIs. Avery Whitaker was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Chanel Pash, Madi Trump and Makaila Capeder all had one hit and one RBI each. Maddie Hooyman was 2-for-4 at the top of the lineup and Kate Lowrey had a hit for the Lady Bulldogs as well.
As the offense continued to roll for Trenton, so did the pitching and defense. Pash and Hurley combined for yet another shutout, the 13th of the season for the Lady Bulldogs. Pash threw four frames, allowing no runs on no hits and one walk while fanning four. Hurley threw the final two frames, completing a joint-effort no-hitter. Hurley allowed no runs, no hits and no walks and struck out two.
Trenton’s effort on the diamond gave the Lady Bulldogs their 24th win of the season and kept the team undefeated on the year.
“This was a good way to play a district opponent,” Lady Bulldogs’ Head Coach Steve Richman said. “I thought we made a statement tonight. This team (South Harrison) has stayed with a lot of teams this year and I thought we came out and handled them the way I think we can handle a lot of teams this year. This gives us some momentum heading into Monday night, when we play Chillicothe. That is going to be a huge game for us. It’s not the most important game, but it’s important to us because of where we are sitting at with our record. I think we’ve got ourselves set up and prepared going into districts.”
Trenton will look to cap off a perfect regular season this Monday night at home on Griffin Field with perhaps its toughest opponent of the season, Chillicothe, standing as the final hurdle on the schedule. The first pitch is at 5 p.m.
Junior Varsity
The Trenton JV was victorious over South Harrison as well on Thursday night, picking up a 7-4 win on Griffin Field. Caitlin McNabb provided the offensive spark the Lady Bulldogs needed, hitting two triples, scoring two runs and driving in one. McKinley Hurley, Tosha Wilson and Megan Lynch all had a hit and a run scored and Shania Anderson collected two hits. Ashley Holloway added a double.
Mallory Hooyman threw 3 1/3 innings, striking out one and Hurley threw the final 2/3 of an inning.
With the win the JV moved to 10-2 on the season. They will wrap up their 2011 campaign on Monday against Chillicothe’s JV.
