The Trentonettes had a strong weekend in Olathe, KS, winning the Summer Slam at Lone Elm Park with a 6-0 record.
Trentonettes Capture Title In Olathe, KS
The Trentonettes started off the 11-team tournament with four pool games. Game one saw the Trentonettes get their run off on the right foot with an 8-2 win over the Kansas Magic of Paola, KS. Danessa Derry and Scotlin Hurley combined to pitch the game while Kate Lowrey and Danessa Derry powered the offense. Lowrey had two RBIs, a double, a triple and two runs scored. Danessa Derry had two RBIs, two doubles and a run scored. Lindsey Derry added an RBI, a double and a run scored. The Trentonettes also got an RBI and a run scored from Makaila Capeder and an RBI from Madi Trump. Scotlin Hurley scored two runs and Avery Whitaker scored one run.
In game two, the Trentonettes scored a 6-2 win behind the pitching of Danessa Derry and Breanna Fortune and another good game at the plate. Scotlin Hurley and Lindsey Derry both went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored. Whitaker was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run. McKinley Hurley had a sacrifice RBI and Trump, Shelby Chaney and Rahel Horner scored one run each.
The Trentonettes’ offense continued to roll along in their third game, racking up 15 runs in a 15-4 victory over the Topeka, KS Lady Outlaws. Scotlin Hurley and McKinley Hurley combined on the hill for the win and Fortune went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Scotlin Hurley had two RBIs and two runs scored and Chaney drove in two runs and scored one. Lindsey Derry, McKinley Hurley, Danessa Derry and Horner all had an RBI and one run scored each. Whitaker drove in one run, Lowrey scored two runs, Capeder scored two runs and Trump scored one run.
The Trentonettes had to lean on their pitching a little more in the final pool play game, but still came out on top, defeating the Topeka, KS Legacy, 3-2. Fortune took the win on the hill, striking out 10 batters in the contest. Fortune and Lowrey were both perfect at the plate and each drove in and scored one run. Horner had an RBI as well and Lindsey Derry had a double and a run scored.
Following pool play, the Trentonettes were seeded first in the Gold Pool and received a first-round bye in the single elimination bracket.
The Trentonettes faced the Legacy once again, this time in the semifinals. Scotlin Hurley did a solid job missing the Legacy bats, tallying six strike outs in a 5-0 shutout. The Trentonettes got two RBIs, two doubles and a run scored from Lindsey Derry in the game and an RBI and a run from Scotlin Hurley. Lowrey and Fortune each had one RBI and Chaney, McKinley Hurley and Horner all scored one run.
The championship game was another close one as the Trentonettes pulled out a 3-2 victory over the Spring Hill, KS Power. Fortune was the winning pitcher, striking out six and Lindsey Derry went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a triple, an RBI and two runs scored. Lowrey was 2-for-3 as well and had one RBI. Whitaker had an RBI double and Trump scored a run.
Following the championship-winning performance in Olathe, the Trentonettes are now sitting at 26-14 overall on the season.
