Austin Busch fell 8-5 at the number one spot, but Michael Witten’s 8-2 win at number two kept the Bulldogs even with the home squad. Isaiah Swann and Sam Muff both lost 8-2 in the number three and four matches respectively. Nathanyl Bankson fell 8-4 at number five, but Karson Hill kept Trenton’s hopes mathematically alive with an 8-3 win at number six.
Heading into doubles play down 4-2, Trenton still had a chance, but an 8-5 loss by Busch and Witten gave LeBlond the dual. Swann and Hill were able to pick up an 8-5 win in the second doubles match, making Hill unbeaten at the dual. Muff and Bankson wrapped up the dual, falling 8-4.
“We played good points here and there, but overall just couldn’t get things going,” Bulldogs’ Coach Dave Sager said. “When we got back into the matches, it was just too late. Witten and Karson played very good singles matches, though. They were very consistent and controlled the entire match. Karson and Swann played another good doubles match. They have been very successful at the number two doubles spot and are on a roll in capturing wins.”
The loss dropped Trenton to 1-5 on the season.
In junior varsity action, Trenton drew a 3-3 split. Jacob Marlay played two singles matches, falling 6-2 and 6-1. Brandon Whittle and Tyler Maberry picked up two doubles victories, winning 6-4 and 6-2. Elliott O’Neal and Colin Ferguson split doubles matches, winning one 6-4, and falling in the other, 6-4.
Trenton will return to the courts today, weather permitting, traveling to Chillicothe for a dual. Action is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
