Barnes Baker received the Above and Beyond Business of the Year Award while Mrs. Lowrey was honored as the 2010 Ambassador of the Year. Around 100 persons attended the event, held in the fellowship hall of the First Christian Church.
Representing Barnes Baker, owner Brent Wyant talked about the involvement he and his staff have in the community, in particular activities that involve education.
“We are tickled to death to be involved with the school, both K-12 and the college,” he said. “It is the foundation of our community and if we don’t do a good job in educating our students, then we aren’t going to get much done.”
Barnes Baker is involved in several school-related events, in particular the Drive One 4 Ur School, which has raised over $22,000 for organizations during the past three years. Another one is scheduled on May 7 to benefit the THS Band and Choir. He also spoke of the company’s involvement in Holiday Hoops at North Central Missouri College as well as other activities in which employees participate.
Wyant concluded by thanking the community for its support, noting that without that support, Barnes Baker would not be able to do what it does in giving back to the area.
In her remarks, Mrs. Lowrey said her love of the community is why she was involved with the ambassadors and the various community activities in which she participates. She said that the community has been good to her and that she wanted to give something back. She thanked her boss, Wendell Lenhart, for allowing her the time to participate in the activities as well as her husband, Stan Lowrey, who is also a member of the chamber.
In addition to Barnes Baker and Mrs. Lowrey being recognized, members of the Chamber Ambassadors and Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors were also honored. Both former and current members were introduced, along with members of the Chamber/License Bureau staff.
Members of the Trenton FFA served the meal which preceded the meeting. Entertainment was provided by magician Eric Price. There was also an auction of items donated by chamber members, with money raised to be used for chamber activi-ties.
