In the Lathrop dual, eight matches were contested on the mat with each school scoring wins by fall in four weights.
Lathrop took the first two matches, pinning Carlos Gonzalez at 103 pounds and Lane Beverlin at 112. The Bulldogs battled back, winning the next three matches by falls of their own. Bruce Fair (119), Brandon Dolan (125) and Karson Hill (130) all pinned their Lathrop opponents, giving the lead back to Trenton. The Bulldogs’ Maria Stevenson was pinned at 135, and Kody Westcott lost by fall at 140 before Trenton regained the lead for good with five straight wins by forfeit.
Alex Lovell (145), Clay Oneal (152), Jacob Spillman (160), Dakota Galvin (171) and James Fairchild (189) all had their hands raised in victory, without wrestling. Trenton gave six points back, being open at 215, but Tyler Carpenter, wrestling up a weight, won by fall at 285 to give the dual it’s final score of 54-30 in favor of the Bulldogs.
Trenton only won three-of-seven weights in the second dual, but took advantage of seven open weights by Maysville to pick up the win, 56-21.
Despite the win, some of Trenton’s strongest wrestlers were dealt losses in this dual. Dolan was pinned at 125, Oneal lost by a 7-0 decision at 152 and Spillman was pinned at 160. Trenton’s other loss was by fall by Lovell at 145.
Winning for Trenton in the dual were Hill (130), who scored a dominating 25-9 technical fall; Carpenter (215), who pinned his opponent; and Fair (119), who won by a 6-0 decision.
“Karson had a good night with a 25-9 tech fall over Maysville and building on an 18-5 lead before pinning a returning state medalist from Lathrop,” Trenton Head Coach Bill Hill said. “Bruce looked tough, avenging a previous loss to Maysville with a solid 6-0 decision win to go with his fall in the Lathrop match.”
Gonzalez (103), Beverlin (112), Stevenson (135), Westcott (140), Galvin (171), Fairchild (189) and Layton Harkins (285) all won by forfeit, giving Trenton the 56-21 win.
The 8-1 Bulldogs will take a break from dual action as they compete in the annual Trenton Wrestling Tournament on Saturday at home. First matches in the THS gym are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
