Grundy R-5 struggled offensively in the opening quarter, only putting up three points. Pattonsburg took advantage and ran out to a 9-3 lead after one. The Panthers’ offense broke out of its slump in the second quarter behind 12 points from Tyler Jackson. Grundy R-5 cut the Pattonsburg lead to 20-19 by halftime.
The R-5 Panthers continued to find success on the offensive end of the floor in the third quarter. The Panthers got a balanced scoring attack that put up a 20 spot in the third to give them their first lead of the game and a 39-31 edge heading into the final frame.
It would not be the Panthers’ night, however, as their offense could not keep pace. Pattonsburg outscored Grundy 17-7 over the final eight minutes, allowing them to come back for the win.
“I was very pleased with the boys effort both in the game and for the season,” Head Coach Les Jackson said. “With no seniors on the team, I think the boys came a long way from the beginning of the year.”
Grundy was led by Bryce Rains, who put up 21 points on the night and grabbed seven rebounds. Jackson was right behind him, scoring 15 points while collecting 12 rebounds and five assists. The Panthers also got solid games from Jordan Whitney, who scored eight points, and Adam Buckner, who pulled down eight rebounds.
The loss dropped the Panthers’ final record to 10-14 on the season.
