Trenton FFA members were recognized for achievements during the annual chapter banquet held Thursday night in the Trenton High School gym.
Receiving Star Chapter awards were Kendra Foster, star greenhand; Megan Schmidt, star chapter agribusinessman; Hilary Holeman, star chapter farmer in ag placement; and Kari Epperson, star chapter farmer.
Jason Ausberger was named winner of the Crawford Loan, a one-year award to help fund a Supervised Agriculture Education project. Trent Steinhoff received the two-year McHargue Loan while Derek Lowrey was presented with the two-year Kiwanis Loan.
Hilary Holeman received the Built Ford Tough Scholarship of $1,000, of which $500 is contributed by Barnes-Baker Automotive of Trenton. Kari Epperson received the $1,000 National Cargill Scholarship, which was one of only 350 given nationwide. That scholarship was presented locally by Hoffman & Reed, Inc. Both girls also received the FFA Alumni Scholarship.
The Huel Campbell Award, which funded trips to the State FFA Camp, went to Tasha Porter and Jeremy Shuler. The Dwaine Meservey Memorial Award went to Miss Foster to attend the public speaking academy and to Ashley Stiner and Mitchell Briegel to attend State FFA Camp.
Scholarships to the National Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. went to Megan Wyant, Stephanie Gutshall, Sadie Jones and Megan Schmidt. The DeKalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award was presented to Jon McAtee.
Receiving the Hudson Family Outstanding Junior Award were Stephanie Gutshall and Sadie Jones. Sean Silkwood was presented the Gary Brinser Outstanding Senior Award. K.D. Whitt was presented with the honorary chapter degree.
Installed as new officers for the 2004-2005 year were Megan Wyant, president; Stephanie Gutshall, first vice president; Sadie Jones, second vice president; Ashley Schmidt, secretary; Derek Lowery, reporter; Tosha Altes, reporter; Trent Steinhoff, sentinel; Bethany Hull, parliamentarian; and Sabrina Barron, chaplain. Advisors are Brian Robinson and Dennis Gutshall.
Leadership pins were presented to Charly DeVorss and Kelly Tredway, freshmen; April Ross and Sabrina Barron, sophomores; Megan Wyant and Logan Campbell, juniors; and Andy Gannon and Susan Hanes, seniors. Scholarship pins were presented to Tiffany Brewer and Destiny Silvers, freshmen; Bethany Hull and Alana Tolle, sophomores; Megean McCloud and Catie Provance, juniors; and Robert Howard and Ethan Cross, seniors.
Active participation pins went to Derek Lowrey, Jason Ausberger, Trent Steinhoff, Dustin Koon, Kayla Slater, Rodney Hughs, Mariah Moore and Logan Epperson. Certificates were presented to the runners-up, Ashley Brewer, Allen Saul, Kari Shiflett, Robbie Houser, Krystal Meraz, Tosha Altes, Sabrina Bennett, Josh Gott, Megan Easley and Ashten Witten.
Recognized as the top 10 salesmen for the annual fruit sales were Rodney Hughs, Megan Schmidt, Justin Anderson, Cody McHargue, Destiny Silvers, Charly DeVorss, Sara Turley, Amanda Mullaney, Kendra Foster and Kelli Grogan.
Camp recognition was given to Trent Steinhoff, who was FFA camp reporter and won the Department of Conservation SAE Award; Hilary Holeman, who was first in impromptu speaking and second in extemporaneous speaking; the Trenton Rituals Team of Kari Epperson, Hilary Holeman, Logan Campbell, Jeff Stevens, Susan Hanes, Katie Whitt and Alana Tolle, which placed second in competition; Logan Campbell, who won the tetherball tournament; Destiny Silvers and Susan Hanes as members of the first-place lifeline rescue team; Mark Wood, Trent Steinhoff and Logan Campbell as members of the first-place canoe swamping team; Alana Tolle, all-around camper; and Mitchell Briegel, Trent Steinhoff, Derek Lowry and Jeff Stevens, state leadership medals. Also attending camp were April Ross, Ashley Stiner, Dustin Koon, Josh Thomas, Kari Epperson, Cari Buzzard, Kayla Slater and Tosha Altes.
Fall speaking contest honors went to Hilary Holeman, Missouri Institute of Cooperatives, third in state; and Stephanie Gutshall, Missouri Farm Bureau, district qualifier.
FFA leadership contest awards went to Megean McCloud, completed placement record book, gold; Sadie Jones, completed ownership record book, silver; Rodney Hughs, beginning placement record book, silver; Jeremy Shuler, beginning ownership record book, silver; Sadie Jones and Megan Schmidt, scrapbook, silver; Kendra Foster, creed speaking, silver; and Kelly Tredway, prepared public speaking division, third at area, third at district and top 14 at state.
The Dairy Cattle Judging Team was recognized for being the top team at the state contest and qualifying for the national contest later this year. The team placed second at districts. Members were Stephanie Gutshall, who was the second-high individual judge; Kari Epperson, who was the third-high individual judge; Sadie Jones and Megan Schmidt.
Other teams recognized included FFA Knowledge, fourth at district and 14th at state; Parliamentary Procedures, second at area; Ag Mechanics, eight at district and 20th at state; Floriculture, fourth at district and 35th at state; Agronomy, 12th at district and 44th at state; Dairy Foods, 19th at district; Entomology, 25th at district; Farm Management, 15th at district; Horse Judging, 22nd at district; and Meat Judging, 18th at District. Misty Sharp, Allen Saul and Kurt Walker also participated individually at the district judging.

Hilary Holeman was recognized for serving as the Area II president the past year. Stephanie Gutshall was recently installed to serve in the same office for the 2004-2005 school year.
National proficiency award winners honored were Brian Thompson, who received a gold national award in floriculture entrepreneurship, and Colby Epperson, who received a silver national ward in diversified agriculture production.
Area proficiency award winners were Susan Hanes, first in ag sales placement;
Megan Schmidt, first in dairy production entrepreneurship; Kari Epperson, second in sheep production entrepreneurship; Hilary Holeman, third in ag services; and Jon McAtee, who participated in beef production entrepreneurship.
Recognized for receiving area degrees were Jeff Stevens, Kari Epperson, Susan Hanes, Destiny Ferris and Megean McCloud. State FFA degree recipients were Kari Epperson and Susan Hanes.
Recognized as barnwarming king and queen were sophomore Dustin Koon and junior Megan Schmidt. Other candidates were freshmen Logan Epperson and Phoebe Kitchen, sophomore April Ross, junior Troy Bruner and seniors Andy Gannon and Destiny Ferris.
Recognized for participating in the state FFA chorus and band were Logan Campbell, Jeff Stevens, Sean Silkwood and Austin Thompson.
