Lorene Alice Owens, an 86-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died on Sunday, March 28, 2004 at the Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe.

Lorene Alice Owens, an 86-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died on Sunday, March 28, 2004 at the Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, March 31, 2004). Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery at Milan.

Mrs. Owens was born on May 20, 1917 in Sullivan County to Bernie and Ethel Swearengen Tharp. She was raised in the Milan area and married James Benjamin Franklin on Nov. 26, 1936. The Franklins were long-time residents of the Laredo area. After her husband’s death in 1961, she was married in December 1962 at Trenton to James Eugene Owens. The owned and operated the drugstore in Laredo before retiring to Chillicothe in 1977.

Mrs. Owens is survived by her husband, Jim Owens, of Chillicothe; one son, Jim Franklin of Chillicothe; two sisters Ramah Bennett of Independence and Noma Jean Daniel of Green Castle; one brother, Bernie Tharp Jr of Lenexa, KS; five granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and four great-granddaughters.

In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Jean Bowe Elliott; an infant son, Edmond Franklin; and a brother, Earl Tharp.
