THS Softball Team Takes Third In NCMC Tournament

The Trenton High School softball team placed third in the North Central Missouri College Tourna-ment on Saturday, finishing 2-1 on the day.

The Trenton High School softball team placed third in the North Central Missouri College Tourna-ment on Saturday, finishing 2-1 on the day.

?It was big for the girls to bring home third place in only our second year in the NCMC Tournament,? Coach Kris Ockenfels said. ?The team really wanted to prove they belong in the big tournaments.?

The Lady Bulldogs took a 4-3 win over Smithville to take third-place honors. Amber Vandevender drove in the game-winning run with a two-out single in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Straussy Winters led the THS attack with two hits, including a double, and scored one run. Taron Brewer had two hits and scored a run while Nicole Allen finished with a double and two RBIs.

?Taron Brewer had a great day, going 5-for-9 and catching all three games,? Ockenfels said.

Ashley Hutchinson got the win for the Lady Bulldogs, pitching seven strong innings. She allowed just one earned run while giving up four hits and three walks and striking out two.

?Ashley pitched well in all three games, pitching 16 innings and giving up only four earned runs,? Ockenfels said.

He also credited Amber Daniels with giving the Lady Bulldogs some relief on the mound. She pitched several innings in the second game against Lawson to give Hutchinson some time off before coming back in the third-place contest.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to Lawson in the second contest, 9-0. Trenton got hits from Vandevender and Winters. Hutchinson picked up the loss, giving up two earned runs on one walk, one strikeout and two hits.

Trenton opened the day with a 9-2 win over Milan. Brewer was three-for-four with two doubles and two RBIs. She also stole two basis and scored two runs.

Hutchinson had two doubles while driving in two runs and scoring twice. She also walked twice.

Ashten Witten picked up two RBIs on two hits and scored a run.

Hutchinson got the win on the mound, giving up just one earned run on five hits and one walk. She also struck out four.

The THS girls are 5-6 and are in action today at Putnam County. They will be at home on Tuesday, hosting St. Joseph LeBlond in a 5 p.m. contest.
