Eleanor Grace McCarty, an 81-year-old resident of Corydon, IA, died on Saturday, June 8, 2002 at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2002 at th First Baptist Church in Corydon. The Rev. Dean Meyer will officiate, under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service of Lineville, IA. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Lineville.

An open visitation and viewing will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday at the church, where the family visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at 11 a.m.

Mrs. McCarty was born on Jan. 27, 1921 in Princeton, the daughter of Robert Monroe and Bessie Lavonia Rutledge Yates. She was raised and attended school in Princeton.

Mrs. McCarty was married on Jan. 7, 1939 at Princeton to Gerald R. McCarty. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1988. After their marriage, the couple resided in the state of California and in Kansas City. They lived in Des Moines from 1952 to 1960, later moving to Corydon, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. She lived gardening and traveling.

Mrs. McCarty is survived by two sons, Mike McCarty of West Des Moines, IA, and Larry McCarty and his wife, Charlene, of Norwalk, IA; two daughters, Sharon Hoskins and her husband, Ken, of Des Moines, and Karen Eden and her husband, Gerald, of Elkhart, IA; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Luther Yates, and one sister, Virginia Wilcox.
