The Tri-County R-7 Board of Education took action on a number of items during Thursday night?s meeting at the school in Jamesport.

According to information provided by Superintendent Ron Garber, the board voted to hire Chris Hodge to teach in the school district and will also serve as boys varsity basketball coach. He replaces Andy Lewis, who will remain a teacher in the district.

The board reviewed teacher salaries for the current school year with the salaries that are to be paid during the 2002-2003 school year. There was also discussion of the school policy pertaining to the release of tenured teachers, with officials noting Missouri state law regulates this policy.

The board discussed the possibility of building a track, with high school principal Troy Clawson to look into the dimensions and cost. The board also discussed the possibility of paying off the lease-purchase on the new building earlier than scheduled. Funds from capital projects must be used to pay off the lease-purchase and the district is limited by the state to the amount of money it can transfer for that purpose.

A budget of $8,708 was approved for the Summer School Academy. Donna Nichols presented the professional development program report, which was accepted, and the Home Exchange Bank at Jamesport was chosen as the school?s depository for the 2002-2003 year. Bids will be sought for the milk, bread and propane products for next year.

The board approved a list of 15 students who will be graduated during ceremonies at 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 19. baccalaureate will be at 5 p.m.

The next board meeting will be on June 11.
