John Rolland Bagley, a 45-year-old resident of Mercer, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2002 at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, IA.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at the Mercer Baptist Church. Rev. Ron Helton and Father Edgar Probstfield will officiate under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service in Princeton. Burial will be in the Early Cemetery, south of Mercer.
Open visitation and viewing is in progress at the funeral home, where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. this evening (Monday, March 25, 2002).
Mr. Bagley was born on Oct. 5, 1956 in Kirksville, the son of Raymond and Ramona Lavely Bagley. He was united in marriage to Betty Jane Oswald on Nov. 24, 1979. She survives him of the home in Mercer. He was raised in Mercer County and was a 1974 graduate of Mercer High School. After high school he worked as a mechanic at A&W Motors in Princeton for 10 years and later opened Bagley Brothers Auto Repair in Mercer. For the past seven years he has been in the concrete construction business as John R. Bagley Construction of Mercer. He was a former volunteer fireman with the Mercer Fire Department, a former EMT with the Mercer County Ambulance District and was currently a soccer coach in Mercer. He was a member of the Mercer Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Bagley is also survived by three daughters, Stacy, Rebecca, and Kristina Bagley, all of the home; three sons, Matthew, Steven and David Bagley, also of the home; a foster son, Kip Houk and his wife, DeEtta, of Mercer; his parents, Raymond and Ramona Bagley of Mercer; his maternal grandmother, Eleanor Lavely of Mercer; three brothers, William Bagley and his wife, Tami, of Chillicothe, Dennis Bagley and his wife, Judy, of Princeton, and Paul Bagley and his wife, Dottie, of Mercer; one sister, Virginia Higgins and her husband, Bruce, of Princeton; and by three grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the John Bagley Children?s Trust Fund. Contributions may be mailed to Betty Bagley, RFD #1, Box 4, Mercer, 64661.
