“Mad Scientist” Program At Library

Free E-Reader Class At Library

A free e-reader class for adults will be held at the Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library later this month.
A one-day training on the Kindle, Nook or other e-readers will be held on Wednesday, May 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. on the first floor of the library. Persons should bring their own e-reader for the class.

Library Announces Summer Reading Program

“Fizz, Boom, Read” is the theme of the 2014 Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library Summer Reading Program, which gets under way next month.
Youth ages newborn to 12th grade are encouraged to participate in this year’s program, which is centered on science. In addition to weekly reading sessions, participants will also take part in special activities, some of which will also be open to the public.

FOL Dinner, Book Sale

The Grundy County-Jewett Norris Friends of the Library will hold its dinner and book sale this month.
The dinner is scheduled for Friday, April 11 at the library. The event begins 6 p.m. and will include a program by Civil War speaker Jim Denny.

Minecraft Class Planned

The Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library is hosting a “Minecraft Class” for school-aged students over the Christmas holidays.
Sessions will be held in the youth computer lab on Dec. 27, 30 and Jan. 3 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Participants will learn how to “play, create and build in this cyber world” with several computer activities planned. There is a $28 cost to participate and youth must go online to sign

Library Digitizing Old Newspapers

The Grundy County Genealogy Society, with the assistance of the Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library, has begun a project to digitize the entire microfilm collection of newspapers on file at the library. The microfilm collection dates back to 1894 and is used extensively in genealogy research.

Summer Reading Program On Wednesday

Animals will be topic of programs being presented on Wednesday and Thursday to youth participating in the Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library Summer Reading Program.

Courtney Deaver from Crowder State Park will have a program on “worms” at 10 a.m. on Wednesday for the three-year to preschool group while Grundy County Conservation Agent Jeff Berti will talk about “Animals That Dig” for students in grades kindergarten to two at 11 a.m.

Magic Show At the Library

“Christian the Magician” will perform at the Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library on Wednesday as part of the summer reading program.

The performance is at 2:30 p.m. in the Hoover Theater and is open to children of all ages involved in the summer reading program. There will be no regular programs for youth on June 12 and 14.

Summer Reading Safety Program

“Dig Into Reading and Beneath the Surface” is the theme for the 2013 summer reading program at the Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library.
