Troop 97 Participate In Boy Scout Anniversary

Photo Courtesy of Kara Helmandollar Twenty youth and adult members of Boy Scout Troop 97 participated in the Pony Express Council 100th Anniversary Jamboree over the weekend in St. Joseph, Missouri.  February 21, 2016 marked the 100th anniversary of the Pony Express Council of which Troop 97 is a member.  The event wrapped up a Century of Service yearlong celebration.  Scouts took over Civic Center Park this pasat weekend which is believed to be the largest scout encampment in the history of the park. In addition to traditional camping activities, scouts enjoyed an exhibit by the Missouri Department of Conservation, Kansas City Woodcarvers demonstrations and instruction, archeology exhibits, Dutch oven cooking, first aid skills, and numerous games including human foosball, and a monkey bridge.  The event featured a council campfire Saturday evening and a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony Sunday morning.  Scouts attending from Troop 97 included from left, front row, Samuel Merrin, Tommy Eads,  Gabe Gamble, Ashton Schmidt, Aidan McAtee, Payden McCullough; two two, Jake McNabb, Canyon VonBurg, Cole Soptic, Ben Woodson, Elijah Merrin, Eric Hines; row three, Shaun McCullough, Scott VonBurg, Jeremy Soptic, Warren Woodson, Kevin Bailey; back row, James Hines, Rod Gamble, Jeff Eads. Not pictured is Jimmy Miller. Troop 97 is sponsored locally by First Christian Church. The scoutmaster is Jeff Spencer.
