Family Book Project Benefits Community

Submitted Photo “Education is the Key to Success,” was often shared with the sons of Babe and Jim Roy while growing up in rural Spickard. In honor of the focus given to lifelong learning and lifelong education by their parents, the Roy sons and their families have built and donated a “Little Free Library” for all in the community to share. This symbolic library was designed to look like a one-room schoolhouse and follows the Little Free Library organization’s mission of promoting literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide and to build a sense of community sharing skills, creativity and wisdom across generations. The library has been installed in partnership with the Trenton R-9 School District, where Mrs. Roy taught for 40 years. The library has been located on the grounds of the THS/TMS complex, directly adjacent to the Charly DeVorss memorial bench. Charly was a cadet teacher with Mrs Roy and also had a love for reading. When you’re in the area, stop by to “take a book and/or leave a book.”
