Area Resident Wins In Cowboy Poet Rodeo Contest

Submitted Photo Ron Ratliff of Gilman City, who is pastor of the Tenth Street Baptist Church in Trenton, recently won first place in the humorous category and third place in the serious category at the national Cowboy Poet Rodeo contest, held in Abilene, KS. Ratliff has always been involved in the cowboy culture, from rodeo to ranching, leatherwork and, in the past several years, writing and reciting cowboy poetry. He and his wife, Iva have a small cow/calf operation, north of Gilman City, with a few horses. They are the parents of two grown sons and four grandchildren, two of which have participated in junior high and high school rodeo. Ratliff has been preaching for over 35 years, including the last 14 years at the Tenth Street Baptist Church, as well as two years at the Three Tree Cowboy Church near Jamesport.
