HYPE Event Held At Barton Campus

Photo Courtesy of North Central Missouri College Twenty-nine Missouri high school seniors, who are also FFA members, attended the second annual HYPE (Helping Youth Prepare for Excellence) Academy from June 28-30 on the North Central Missouri College Barton Farm Campus. The academy, sponsored by the Missouri Corn Growers Association, provided extensive leadership training and included sessions on advocacy training, communication basics and social media outreach. These sessions provided training to participants about how to effectively talk about their experiences in farming, overcome obstacles and develop their communication and personal skills. Participants heard from various stakeholders in agriculture, NCMC President Dr. Lenny Klaver and Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer. Participants were able to practice their advocacy and communication skills through mock legislative hearings on key agriculture issues with Missouri senators Brian Munzlinger and Dan Hegeman and state representatives Allen Andrews, Bill Reiboldt, J. Eggleston, Jay Houghton and Joe Don McGaugh as participants.
