DAWGS Participate In Football Clinic

Submitted Photo The Trenton Disabled Athletes with Grundy Support were invited to the Jamaal Charles Special Olympics Flag Football Clinic in Kansas City. The clinic included skills and drill stations for speed and agility, passing/throwing, catching off the run and pass, formations and flag pulling. Once the drills were completed, athletes enjoyed scrimmages with Jamaal and some of his friends along with members of Special Olympics. After lunch, the athletes each got their picture taken with Charles, a running back with the Kansas City Chiefs, along with any items that they brought for autographs. The athletes received one-on-one instruction from Charles as well as individual attention from the NFL’s top running back. Charles told the group that he got his start in Special Olympics in Texas when he was bullied in school and not permitted to play on the school teams. He reminded them that they must always show the world that their abilities are greater than their disabilities. Pictured above with Charles are Tatiana and Mykael Kelsey, Chase and Brennen Henricks, Hannah and Sierra Bruse, Kamey Shaw, Mary Tunnell, Pierce Rash, James Ross and Gabe Gronniger along with Sarah Bachand, KC Metro Program Director for Special Olympics, and Susan Shaffer, Competition Director at Special Olympics Missouri.
