Kirksville To Strong For THS Tennis Team

The Trenton High School boys’ tennis team was in action on Senior Day Monday afternoon at the THS tennis courts. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs. the day’s opponent was the Kirksville Tigers, who swept Trenton 9-0 in Kirksville just last week. This match-up was not much better, though Trenton did manage a point, falling 8-1. Kade Ockenfels picked up Trenton’s lone victory, taking his singles match by a score of 10-8. Other than the win, it was a rough day for Trenton. Jacob Davis lost 10-1 at number one, Nick Shields lost 10-0 at number two and Bryce Whitney fell 10-3 at number three. Ockenfels’ win came at number four before Creed Houghton and Wyatt Neal lost 10-2 and 10-1 respectively to round out singles play. Doubles matches, which were played before singles action, saw Whitney and Ockenfels lose 8-2, Neal and Dylan May fall 8-2 and CJ Sibbit and Dillon Parrack lose 8-2. With the loss, Trenton fell to 3-6 in duals on the season. JUNIOR VARSITY Trenton’s junior varsity went 0-3 against Kirksville. Houghton and Zack Maberry lost 6-1, Colten Hamilton and Jeremy Elliott fell 6-1 and Weston Otto and Elijah Oyler fell 6-1. UP NEXT Trenton’s tennis team has an opportunity to bounce back on Wednesday, when the Bulldogs travel to Lexington to take on Wentworth Military Academy. First serves for the dual are scheduled for 4 p.m.
