Fire Destroys Trenton Trailer Home

R-T Photo/Ronda Lickteig Members of the Trenton Fire Department and Grundy County Rural Protection District battled a fire on Friday afternoon that destroyed a mobile home at 1908 Colt St. The owner of the home, Robert Allen, along with his wife, Lorene, were out of town when the fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. According to Trenton Fire Marshal Lt. Robert Romesburg, the cause of the fire is being listed as an electrical meter box that had been incorrectly installed by a third party electrician, which caused an electrical power surge to the mobile home. As a result, an excessive amount of power was sent into the home and outlets burned inside the wall. While the origin of the fire was undetermined, fire officials say the fire most likely began near an outlet on a wall on the east side of the home. It took about 20 minutes to get the fire under control. The Grundy County EMS assisted with the blaze.
