Dedication For Solar Farm Held

R-T Photo/Wendell Lenhart A dedication ceremony was held on Tuesday morning for the Trenton Solar Energy Farm in north Trenton and a ribbon cutting was provided by the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce. Loren Williamson, senior vice president for MC Power Companies which operates the facility gave opening remarks, thanking those who assisted with the project, including  city and Trenton Municipal Utilities officials along with the Missouri Public Energy Pool and Gardner Capital, Inc. Williamson said the farm became commercially operational on Nov. 8 and that it consists of 11,160 solar panels covering approximately 15 acres. The farm produces 2.8 megawatts of electricity, which is enough to power 300 to 350 average size homes. He said the public can go to www.mcpower.com and click on a link for the Trenton solar farm to monitor the amount of electricity being produced at any given time. The electricity produced flows into the TMU electric system. Other speakers at the event included Mayor Dr. Nick McHargue, TMU Director Chad Davis, Community Developer Ralph Boots, City Councilman and Economic Development Committte Chairman Travis Elbert, Mark Gardner, president of Gardner Capital, Inc., and John Grotzinger CEO of MJMEUC. Boots noted the farm is part of $15 million which has been invested in the community this year.
