National Student Day Celebrated At NCMC

The North Central Missouri College Bookstore participated in National Student Day last week, supporting children’s literacy with a variety of activities. Students, including Jessica Farmer of Polo, pictured above with Patch the Pirate, snapped “selfies” at the college bookstore and posted to a social media site with #giveme5nsd in order to be entered to win a $500 store gift card. For every entry accepted, “Reading is Fundamental” received $1 (up to $5,000). The contest continues through this Thursday. Other student prizes included water bottles given at the Ketcham Community Center and a $50 gift certificate provided by the NCMC Bookstore. Various prizes and food were provided by departments on campus, including the development office, the Alexander Student Center, Student Support Services, the Academic Resource Center and the NCMC Library. Several local businesses donated to NSD as well and $1,400 in prizes were awarded to 100 students on campus. Activities during NSD included a Tenzi dice game, a scavenger hunt and a team building obstacle course for groups to work together to achieve the goal-a popular activity provided by the Missouri National Guard. Patch the Pirate, NCMC mascot, also celebrated NSD by posing with students in their selfies, dancing, and participating in activities. The men’s basketball team sold grilled hot dogs and water to students, staff and community members. People could pull up and order lunch from the curb and some were very inspiring with their generosity. The Baptist Student Union also greeted students and provided free lunch to NCMC students.
