R-6 Students Take Field Trip

Submitted Photo Kindergarten and preschool students from Pleasant View R-6 School made their annual visit to the Shatto Milk Company, where the owners shared their belief that children should have the opportunity to learn that food, especially milk, is produced on a farm and is not just a product at the local grocery store. The dairy allowed students to milk a cow, see and pet the baby calves, see where the cows lived, what they eat and how they are milked. Students learned how the milk was processed and watched how it was packaged in the famous glass milk bottles, along with seeing how the bottles are washed before reusing. The tour ended with the tasting of the many flavored milks the business has to offer. Before leaving the dairy, the children enjoyed a picnic-style lunch and played in the field. The kindergarten teacher is Annette Sager, the preschool teacher is Janet Lea Lake and the preschool aide is Chris Rulo.
