Pump Organ Concert At Baker School

A free demonstration and brief “pump organ” concert will be presented by the Grundy County Museum at 3 p.m. on Sunday in the Baker School building.Wesley United Methodist Church organist Elaine Walker will be at the keyboard. The organ, built by the Beethoven Organ Company of Washington NJ, was produced about 1900. Pump organs produce sound by blowing air through tuned reeds by utilizing a foot operated bellows. Other reed type musical instruments are “pitch pipes” and “harmonicas.” The public is invited to experience the unique sound produced by this organ. All museum buildings are open from 2 to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays and all displays and exhibits are available for viewing. The museum’s quilt collection is on exhibit in the Annex building and this year’s feature exhibit, “Vietnam Remembered,” is a display of photos and stories taken and written by Grundy County’s soldiers in Vietnam.
