Where Is This?

And the correct answer to this photo, appearing in the Thursday, April 24 edition of the Trenton Republican-Times, is: the Missouri Public Service Gas Company, which at the time was located next to the Rock Island Railroad, just north of Ninth Street at Ninth Court and Grant Street. Former Trenton resident Harry Bratton said that according to the “Centennial History of Trenton” the business was incorporated in the winter of 1886 as the Trenton Gas and Electric Company and included three and one-fourth miles of gas mains, 130 private consumers and 30 street lamps. The gas company changed hands several times, finally being known as Citizens Gas and Electric Company, which furnished coal gas for many years before being taken over by Missouri Public Service. Another photo will appear on Thursday.
