It was consolation bracket night at both the Gilman City and Meadville tournaments on Wednesday. The Grundy R-5 girls and Mercer boys were fighting for consolation bids in Meadville while both Tri-County teams and the Gilman City boys were in action in Gilman City.

Grundy R-5 Girls 47
The Grundy R-5 girls basketball team was eliminated from the Meadville Tournament with a 19-point loss to Bucklin-Macon County. Grundy actually ran out to a 14-12 first quarter lead, but an 18-8 run by Bucklin-Macon County in the second quarter put the Lady Panthers in a hole and a similar 17-8 run from their opponents in the final frame put Grundy R-5 away for good.
“The girls battled,” Lady Panthers’ Coach Les Jackson said. “It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Bucklin-Macon County was able to pull away.”
The Lady Panthers were paced by Emily Milazzo, who had 17 points, seven rebounds, six steals and three assists. Mckenna Owens added 16 points and 12 rebounds and Elizabeth Novak finished with nine points and 12 rebounds.
With the loss, Grundy fell to 3-13 on the season.
Mercer Boys 53
Linn County Boys 44
The Mercer boys picked up a victory over Linn County to advance to the consolation final. Mercer trailed 12-9 after the first quarter and 24-22 at halftime before going on an 18-9 run in the third quarter. Mercer outscored Linn County in the final frame as well, putting away the nine-point win.
John Girdner led Mercer with a career-high 20 points. The Cardinals also got 14 points from Cashman Hartley.
With the win, Mercer improved to 9-8 on the season. The Cardinals will play for the consolation title on Friday at 6:15 p.m. in Meadville.
East Harrison Girls 44
Tri-County Girls 10
The Tri-County girls saw their tournament run come to a close as the Lady Mustangs were eliminated with a loss to East Harrison.
With the loss, Tri-County fell to 0-14.
Tri-County Boys 50
Gilman City Boys 21
The Tri-County boys upended Gilman City, advancing to the consolation final with a 29-point win.
The win moved the Mustangs to 6-10 on the season while the Hawks fell to 0-15 overall and were eliminated from the tournament.
The Tri-County boys will play for the consolation title on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Gilman City.
