Mercer Girls 49
Maysville Girls 39
The Lady Cardinals remained undefeated with a 10-point win over a larger Maysville team, both enrollment-wise and physically. Mercer overcame a slow start in the game that saw the Lady Cardinals fall behind 14-6 in the opening quarter. An 18-7 run in the second quarter and a 19-9 run in the third quarter by Mercer reversed the team’s fortunes as the Lady Cardinals roared back to take the lead. Neither team hit double digits in the final frame as Mercer held on for the victory.
Mercer was paced by Nicole Kost and Lindsay Wyatt in the win, both of whom scored 19 points.
With the win, Mercer improved to 5-0 on the season.
Mercer Boys 57
Maysville Boys 46
The Mercer boys found themselves in a very close, back-and-forth game in the first half. After trailing by a point following the first quarter, Mercer used an early run in the second to take a lead of their own. At the break, Maysville had cut the Mercer advantage to a single point. Mercer pushed the lead to four points in the third quarter before outscoring Maysville 13-6 in the final frame to take the 11-point win.
Mercer was paced by a trio of scorers as Garrett Noe, Cash Hartley and Trey Wilson all scored 11 points.
With the win, Mercer improved to 2-3 overall on the season. Both Mercer teams return to the floor at Holiday Hoops today, taking on King City. The girls play at 4 o’clock and the boys follow at 5:30.
